  GENERAL INFORMATION

Language. The official language is Spanish, in any case if you speak English or Portuguese you won’t have major difficulties to communicate.

Currency. The legal currency in Argentina is the peso. The exchange rate with the American dollar varies. In the last months it has fluctuated between $ 2,90 Arg pesos. - $ 3, 18 Arg Pesos = 1 USD Dollar.

Climate. Buenos Aires has a very good climate the whole year. The average temperature of 18º, allows going for a walk at any time.
The coldest month is July. Although frosts do not appear, it is necessary to go out with a woollen coat and a scarf.
In winter, the cold is mild during the day, but at night the temperature lowers considerably.
In summer, the heat is humid. Noons are very hot and the first hours of the afternoon too. At night, the temperature descends slightly, but there is no need for coats.
The rainiest seasons are autumn and spring (from March to June and from September to December). There are generally brief rains that don't stop the development of the activities and they allow you to go out with an umbrella or a raincoat.
In the sunny days of autumn and spring the mornings are fresh, the temperature climbs in a pleasant way towards the noon and it descends at night.

Banking Schedule. Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
Cash extractions and other transactions may be made in ATMs. They are distributed all over the city and operate with all international cards 24 hours a day.

Commercial Schedule. Shops generally open 10 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday.
Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. In some cases and according to the area, they can even open all Saturday and, also on Sunday.
Shoppings opens every day from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Meals. Although there is no exact meal schedule in Argentina, breakfast is usually taken during the mid-morning hours, and is small, usually consisting of coffee or tea, possibly accompanied by slices of toast or pastries. The lunch hour starts at noon or 1:00pm, and is generally a large meal. Dinner starts at about 9:00pm at the earliest, and sometimes much later, and is also a large meal.

Transport. In Buenos Aires you can move by bus, subway or taxi.

Buses. There are approximately 180 lines; the bus fare is 0, 80$ ARG and they are a very good option to move to another point of the city or to the suburbs of the city. It is paid in coins, so make sure you have them before getting into. They work 24 hours a day, but they reduce their frequency at midnight.

Subways. There are five lines of subways and they constitute the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to get around the city during the day. Their routes go below the main avenues of the city, their points of combination too. They are identified by colours and in each one of its stations it is possible to find maps that can help you.
The subway fare is o, 70$ ARG and it is possible to pay in coins and ARG pesos. Subway cards (subte - pass) are sold too. You can use them for several trips and recharge them when you want to.
You can take the subway every day until 10 pm.

Taxis. Their distinctive colours are black and yellow, and they indicate that they are free through a very visible red luminous sign that is above the clock that shows the final rate.
You can take them in the street, or it is possible to request them by telephone. The radio taxis are usually considered safer.

Booths. They are found throughout the city. You can make local and international calls. As well, it is also possible to receive and send faxes. In some cases, they count with Internet access.

Laundries. They are all over the city and work with coins for each washing. They cost $ 7.00 ARG pesos per large bag of clothing. With this service, you can leave your laundry, and they will wash, dry, and fold it for you. You can pass for it later that day or when it is convenient for you to pick up your laundry. Many of them can also deliver your laundry to the place where you are staying.

Electricity. The electrical current is of 220 V.
